Position Summary

Reporting to the General Manager HFA, the Floor Monitor is responsible for daily leadership and support of health, fitness, and recreation programming. Along with maintaining YMCA Canada SAM standards and fitness safety. The Floor Monitor is an integral component in ensuring front line delivery of quality health and wellness programming that enhances member achievement of whole life fitness goals in a positive, inclusive, safe, and values-based environment.

Schedule will include evenings and weekends.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Principle Responsibilities: Listed in order of importance

1. Foster a welcoming, positive environment for members and participants by providing timely support, guidance, and information towards achievement of wellness-related goals. Establish strong working relationships and rapport with members, visitors, and participants and to enhance their Y experience.

2. Responsible for safety and security of members and participants, by ensuring that YMCA facility, group sessions, and

3. Equipment are maintained in keeping with safety requirements. Follow Association, industry, and occupational health and safety requirements in regard to safe work practices, safety reporting, routine inspections, cleanliness and monitoring of YMCA program and fitness facilities.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Youth Director, this position plays an integral role in providing a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children participating in YMCA Childminding and Day Camp programs. Childminding/Day Camp Workers are responsible for planning, leading, and implementing age-appropriate activities that promote children's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development while ensuring the highest standards of safety and care.

This position requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, school holidays, and Day Camp programming based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all children participating in YMCA Childminding and Day Camp programs.

• Plan, organize, and lead engaging age-appropriate activities including games, crafts, physical activities, and group experiences that promote healthy child development.

• Build positive relationships with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and fellow staff while delivering exceptional YMCA customer service.

• Supervise children at all times, ensuring their safety, well-being, and inclusion in accordance with YMCA Child Protection policies and procedures.

• Respond appropriately to incidents, injuries, emergencies, and behavioural concerns while following YMCA policies and reporting procedures.

• Maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces, ensuring equipment and supplies are used appropriately and stored properly.

• Support Day Camp programming during school breaks and summer operations as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Child and Youth Studies, Education, or a related field is considered an asset.

• Experience working with children in a childcare, camp, recreation, educational, or similar setting is preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.

• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
